Social Media Marketing for Small Businesses—How to Get Started the Right Way

By Per · July 14, 2026 · 4-minute read

You run a café, an ice cream shop, or a snack bar in the Uckermark, and you’re constantly hearing, “You need to do something with social media.” But where do you start when the shop already keeps you busy enough? I’ll show you what really matters—without all the jargon and without an expensive agency.

What Social Media Can Do for Your Business

Social media isn't an end in itself. It's meant to deliver very specific results:

The Three Essential Elements of Every Post

Whether it's a post, a Story, or a Reel—good content always follows the same structure:

1. Hook

The first second is crucial. A question, a striking image, or a statement that piques curiosity—otherwise, people will just keep scrolling.

2. Added Value

Show something authentic: your new ice cream of the week, a peek behind the counter, a little tip. People follow you for the things they don't usually get to see.

3. Call to Action (CTA)

Tell people clearly what they should do: “Come by,” “Save this,” “Write to us.” If any one of these three elements is missing, the post falls flat—that’s the most common beginner’s mistake.

Consistency beats quantity: It's better to post two good articles per week than seven half-baked ones.

Where to Start

Don't use all platforms at once. Choose one where your guests actually are, and post there regularly. One platform managed really well is better than three that are maintained half-heartedly.

You want to get noticed, but you don't have time?

As a certified social media manager based in Lychen, I'll take care of that for you—personally and without agency fees.
